MCMHC Student, Clinical Intern
Grantsboto, Jacksonville, and Telehealth for Kids + Adults

Susie (Susan) is a Clinical Mental Health Counseling Intern at Valor Horses for Heroes committed to providing compassionate care to individuals seeking support, healing, and personal growth. Susie utilizes trauma-informed therapeutic interventions, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). She brings a unique and grounded perspective shaped by her diverse professional background as a yoga instructor, wedding and portrait photographer, practical nurse, and United States Marine Corps veteran.

Susie integrates creativity, mindfulness, and practical skill into her emerging counseling practice. Her experience in yoga, meditation, writing, and photography deepens her appreciation for the connection between mind, body, and emotional well-being. Combined with her medical training and service as a combat Marine, she offers clients a respectful, steady, and trauma-informed presence.

Currently pursuing her Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at St. Bonaventure University, Susie previously earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and completed her Practical Nursing program through Genesee Valley Educational Services. She is a certified 200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT). Susie attended her EMDRIA-approved EMDR basic training course through Thrive while interning at Valor. Upon graduation in May, Susie plans to return to Valor as a full-time clinical therapist.

Susan’s core strengths include empathy, active listening, adaptability, critical thinking, teamwork, and an unwavering desire to help others feel seen, supported, and empowered. She looks forward to serving her community by offering a blend of clinical skill, creativity, and grounded life experience to those she works with.
