"Over the last few years insomnia and dreams have affected my life, I had no idea how to manage them and why they were causing me problems. My anxiety and anger issues also were dominating my life. I did not know where to turn. I honestly thought I would suffer from these problems the rest of my life. I was referred to Valor Horses for Heroes and admit I was skeptical at first. After the first few sessions I realized this was one of the best decisions I could have made. The first initial meeting showed me that their compassion, understanding put me at ease and opened my eyes to the possibility that their approach to therapy might be what I have been looking for. In a brief period, Ken Palmer has helped me understand many things and that I am not alone. Ken, a combat veteran himself, has shown me that their therapy process WORKS and has helped me in many ways. He has shown me the tools to deal with problems and has helped me with my anger issues which has greatly improved my relationship with my Wife. I am thankful I found Valor Horses for Heroes, Ken, and the entire Staff there are a Great Group of Professionals and I look forward to getting my life back to normal." -J.B.

"WOW where do I start, I'm finally getting my life back. If you're a Vet with PTSD tell the VA you want to give Valor Horses For Heroes a try."
Trauma Survivor
When I made my first appointment with Kenneth Palmer at Valor Horses For Heroes, I was at my wits end. At 59 years old I was isolating, and depressed, angry, and invalidated from a life of trauma and struggle. I knew that my quality of life sucked because of my mental state. I had tried psychotherapy in the past and never felt that the therapist was able to empathize with me, and I never made any progress. I told Kenneth that I was ready and willing to do the work and said half-jokingly “Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi, you are my only hope.” I was not joking – I was in bad shape and if this therapy could not help, I would not have any more hope. Processing trauma with Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is not easy. It is wrenching emotional work; however, the outcome of gaining the ability to deal with my trauma rationally instead of emotionally, and gaining validation throughout the process was so healing for me. I also had the option to participate in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Equine Therapy when I needed a break from the EMDR intensity. Kenneth helped me to learn how to be comfortable with, if not proud of who I am, and able to slowly rejoin society in a balanced manner. Little did I know, Kenneth was a Star Wars fan, so maybe it was providence that we found each other. Many thanks to Kenneth and the team at Valor Horses For Heroes. -M.C.
Abuse Survivor
" I was 17 when I started seeing Ken. I was barely surviving day-to-day life. I was failing in school. Angry at anything and everything. I had just gotten out of a super abusive relationship and honestly saw no way for my life to get better. My mom found out about this practice and made me an appointment. After coming in for the first time I knew this was the place I needed to be. I feel like it's different coming here because Ken truly cares about each one of his patients. You also get more of a family vibe when you come. It makes it a lot easier to feel comfortable and start to move forward from trauma. One of the most important things in therapy is feeling comfortable and connected with your therapist and that is 100% what you get when you come here." -K. F.
